Brass Garden and Irrigation Equipment

Health Hazards: Faucets, spray nozzles, and other brass hardware for irrigation and home watering purposes can contain lead in the brass alloy. In addition to potential lead contamination from handling these items, the water that passes through brass fixtures may contain traces of lead.

How to Avoid or Minimize Exposure: Don't let your kids drink from leaded brass fixtures or garden hoses with leaded brass ends. Alternatives include products made of nickel and zinc, and products with rubber and hard plastic handles. You can test the products you already own with a home lead test kit, but simply being aware when using these can help minimize or avoid lead exposures (i.e., no need to get rid of them yet). Wash your hands after handling them.
