Galvanized Nails

Some galvanized nails, screws, nuts and bolts contain lead. You can test them using a home lead test kit.

Health Hazards: The lead can rub off onto your hands as you are handling and installing nails. The lead can also leach into water if the nails are submerged in water for some reason.

How to Avoid or Minimize Exposure: If you use galvanized nails or other building materials, be sure to wash your hands after handling them. Keep them out of the reach of children, particularly smaller pieces that they may be tempted to put into their mouths.
