Protecting Wildlife
We at EcoRights believe that abundant and diverse wildlife enhances our lives, is good for the economy, and has intrinsic value all its own.
California is home to over 300 species that are listed as threatened or endangered. These species include mammals, birds, amphibians, fish, insects, and plants that are under threat of extinction. Some of these species are found in only very small ranges, such as the Santa Cruz long-toed salamander, the Nevin's Barberry, and the Bay Checkerspot Butterfly. Other species have wide distribution throughout the state, such as Coho Salmon, the California tiger salamander, and the Tidewater goby.
Water pollution, dams, habitat destruction, and climate change are the major forces leading to loss of biodiversity. We use the Federal Endangered Species Act, the Federal Clean Water Act, and other legal tools and grassroots actions to protect California’s wildlife.
